Christmas Champagne Tasting (Leeds)
Join us for a decadent evening of Champagne, Champagne and more Champagne! Britain's favourite fizz is so synonymous with celebration but here at the Wine School any excuse is good enough to crack open the bubbley, especially just before Christmas to kick off the festivities....
We will discover that there is more to Champagne than Formula 1 winners and birthday parties; Champagne is as diverse in style and character as the wine from any of France's famous regions. We will delve into the range of Champagnes including Rose, Premier Cru, Blanc de Blanc and Vintage; what do these terms mean and how to the affect the taste of the wine?
We will be lavishing particular attention on those Champagne's made by small, grower-producers who cultivate their own grapes in order to craft tiny amounts of truly expressive wines. The wines we taste tonight will be made by smaller, independent 'boutique' winemakers, often farming vineyards which have been in their family for generations. These are the Champagne's best kept secrets (and are often surprisingly cheaper than the big name brands). Why does all this matter? Can you taste the difference? Come along and try them for yourself! We'll also be comparing the NV (non-vinatge) and Vintage bottling from a bigger, more famous, Grand Marque producer such as Lanson or Laurent Perrier- will you think the Vintage is worth the bigger price tag? This is your chance to find out!
So book now to learn about both the techniques and terrior which make Champagne such a joy to drink and learn a little about how to choose your own style of fizz! Set in the atmospheric surroundings of the Hotel du Vin this promises to be a memorable evening with memorable wines.
