Tour de France: Discover Rhone (York)
Discover rich, ripe, robust reds
Join us on a journey down the Rhone Valley. Starting in the severe, steep, slate-lined ravine in the north where the unique Syrahs of Cote Rotie and Hermitage are found and moving south to the undulating hills where Grenache is king, amongst the villages of Chateauneuf du Pape and Gigondas. This evening's tasting is a veritable feast of fruit-filled, spicy red wines and rich, round whites.
Compare and contrast the Northern Rhone, cool and elegant with its deceptively simple wines made from only the noble Syrah grape, with the warmer, more boisterous, heady blends from the Southern Cotes du Rhone made up of Grenache, Mouvedre, Syrah, Carignan and many others. In this region, where excellent value for money can be found at almost every turn, we will show you how to recognise your own favourite style of Rhone wine and then where to get the best value for money.
