Grape Debate Special: Natural vs Normal (Leeds)
It's back! Last year's sell out success with our pal Steve from The Reliance and newly opened Wayward Wines, pitching his 'Natural' wines vs our conventional 'Normal' ones! There is more and more attention coming the way of biodynamic and 'natural' wine. But is this just a fad? a passing phase? And more importantly, do these wines taste good? Advocates for natural wine point to sustainable farming and a return to traditional viticulture- utilising wild yeast and spontaeous fermentations- as part of a food and drink trend where provanence matters. Last year, despite many sceptics in the audience, Steve won people round with his passionate advocacy of natural wine and ended up squeaking through to win the vote by the narrowest of margins. Can he repeat the feat this year, will you prefer the Natural or the Normal of the wine world??
Like our previous, very popular, Grape Debate formats, we'll present this as a bit of a head to head wine tasting, with more than a touch of competitive spice thrown in! Steve will be selecting three of his favourite natural, biodynamic wines to bring to Wine School and will be ready and willing to answer your questions: what exactly constitutes 'Natural Wine'? should it taste better than wines we are used to drinking? can we expect to pay more and if so, do they represent good value for money? Is it true that you don't get a hangover from drinking these wines? For those of you who have heard about 'Natural' Wine and are curious to find out more, this is the perfect night to get answers to your questions.
Alongside Steve's fabulously cosmically produced wines, Laura will be presenting more familar, more 'normal' versions of the same wines. So will you vote Natural or Normal? Kooky or Classic? Crazy or Conventional? We're looking forward to another heated debate!
