Battle of the Brews! Craft Beer Versus Traditional Ales LEEDS
It seems that every time you turn around these days, another craft beer bar has opened or a new microbrewery has been set up. With giants such as BrewDog, Mikkeller, Sierra Nevada and Goose Island joined by Yorkshire-based Magic Rock, Ilkley and Northern Monk the craft beer movement is buzzing at the moment. Tonight we will taste some of these modern classics against the European traditional beers which inspired the craft movement in the first place. The ultimate battle of the brews: who will win the young crafty upstarts or the old school ales?
Did you know that the American craft beer movement of the 1970s was heavily influenced by historic styles of beer from Europe? English IPA, Belgium Witbier and Russian Imperial Stout (which was actually devised in London for export to Russia) are just a few examples of European beers which inspired the Americans. So tonight's tasting will pit the best that modern craft beer has to offer against the beers which inspired them in the first place.
This evening is the perfect introduction to craft beer for those who haven't yet ventured in to that hoppy heaven yet, it is also a great evening for craft beer enthusiasts to learn a little more about the origins of the beers they love. We will taste beers from local and international breweries comparing a pair of pale ales, a pair of fruity wheat beers, a pair of spicy ruby beers and a pair of dark, malty stouts. So book your place for an evening that is sure to provoke plenty of lively debate. Craft Beer or Real Ale? You decide!
