4 wk course: Cape Crusaders: Explore The Wines of South Africa
Wine Schoolers in Leeds are in for a treat this spring as Richard Kilian shares his passion for the wines of South Africa in this brand new 4 week course. Following on from his very successful Masterclass last year, Richard is sourcing some new wines to bring an even bigger wine adventure to the Radissin Blu! If you are a fan of big bold fruit driven wines then South Africa has plenty to enjoy! If you enjoy exploring new wine regions and discovering new favourites, Richard is the expert guide you need to help you taste the best that this under-appreciated region has to offer...
South African wine has a long and proud history, it's links with first the Dutch and later other European trading nations meant it was amongst the first of the 'New World' wine regions to be planted with vines. This long tradition of viticulture gives rise to wine styles, and even individual grape varieties, which are unique to South Africa.
The C20th was a difficult time for South African winemakers, a great deal of government control of the industry lead to a downturn in quality. But the end of apartheid in the 1990's triggered a great investment and renewed global interest in the wines of the Cape and today, we have never enjoyed better wines than the ones being made in regions like Stellenbosch, Paarl, Walker Bay and Cape Agulhas.
For many wine drinkers, the joys of a South African Chenin or Pinotage are well known, but come along to Richard's 4 week course where he will uncover not just the classics, but also new and innovative Sauvignon Blanc, beautifully structured Bordeaux blends, rich and spicy Syrah and many more wines just waiting to be explored.
This course will run on 4 Thursdays starting on 20th February, finishing on Thursday 12th March.
Please Note: in addition to the course fee of £60 there is £10 to pay for each night attended- this is usually paid in cash, on the night.
