Christmas Fine Wine Online with Stag's Leap

Christmas Fine Wine Online with Stag’s Leap

Sadly, it looks like our usual Christmas programme of jolly tastings will have to be curtailed this year. We’ll be running as much as we can ‘in real life’, but quite frankly when you can do such fabulous tastings online why limit the fun? So, for all of you who have loved our online tastings, here’s a Christmas edition just for you!

We’ve been blown away to see how much people have enjoyed the format of 2-3 full bottles, enjoyed at home, with a Meet The Maker here and recipe card there thrown in for good measure. And we won’t stop doing these wine courses!

But, there is a different kind of enjoyment to be had from tasting 6 wines side by side, and six fine wines at that… and after all, it is Christmas! We’ll be working with one of the UK’s leading tasting pack companies, to produce bespoke boxes of tasting samples featuring 6x 50ml of incredible wines for you to enjoy at home. We’ll be hosting these approximately every 3 months, even post-COVID, in a bid to bring our Fine Wine events to everyone who wishes to take part!

So, what is in store for you all this time around?

Thus far our online tastings have been largely based in Europe… we’ve covered Northern Italy, Northern Spain and now the South of France; although our Meet the Maker series have allowed us to roam further and pop into Barossa, Patagonia, Leyda Valley and to our friends in Stellenbosch. But tonight we want to spoil you all with some of the finest wines of North America, a continent which is often overlooked due to its miniscule production and over-sized prices… you need friends in high places if you are going to enjoy the really good stuff!

We have only two bottles of each, yielding just 26 tasting packs, to be shared amongst discerning wine schoolers who wish to spend an evening tasting the following incredible wines:

Chateau St Michelle, Washington State, Eroica Riesling (GWC price £26.50)

Whole berry-pressed, off-dry Riesling made in collaboration with Mosel legend Dr Ernst Loosen. Tingling with the cool Columbia Valley freshness, but packed with perfectly poised complexity coaxed from the finest fruit in expert hands.

Chateau St Michelle, Washington State, The Pundit Syrah (GWC price £29.50)

A mixture of whole clusters and whole berries brings a brightness to this Syrah, a delicacy which is retained by the use of used oak (both French and American). Precise, pure and hugely fruit-driven… a proper old world meets new sort of a wine!

Stag’s Leap Wine Cellar, Napa Valley, Aveta Sauvignon Blanc (GWC price £29.50)

Half fermented in used French oak, half fermented in stainless steel; this wine is a world away from either the Marlborough or the Loire, it is unmistakably Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc.

Stag’s Leap Wine Cellar, Napa Valley, Karia Chardonnay (GWC price £37.50)

Who doesn’t love a good Chardonnay? No expense spared, glorious fruit (including some from the original Chateau Montalena vineyard which won the famous ‘Judgement of Paris’ tasting and was later purchased by Stag’s Leap) and finely honed complexity thanks to 85% of the wine being fermented in the finest French oak… step aside Puligny Montrachet!

Stag’s Leap Wine Cellar, Napa Valley, Hands of Time Cab/Merlot (GWC price £35)

Napa is famous for its Bordeaux blends and this is the wine to show you why! Undeniably bursting with ripe black fruit it retains the freshness and acidity that one might expect from a European wine. Elegant, but hard hitting, a wine to wine over the traditionalists.

Stag’s Leap Wine Cellar, Napa Valley, Artemis Cabernet Sauvignon (GWC price £69.50)

Quite simply the best of Napa…a spine of acid and tannin which holds the wine together like an iron core, wrapped in a crazy aromatic layer of black fruit, mint, eucalyptus and pungent spice thanks to a splash of Malbec. A treat to enjoy as you look forward to Christmas!

Total price of the wines tasted (if you purchased a whole bottle of each, even at the specially reduced Great Wine Co price): £228

Our price of £55 includes your presentation for the evening courtesy of Laura (we are close to getting a guest speaker from Stag’s Leap Wine Cellar confirmed so wait to hear on that!) and a tasting box with 50 ml samples of each of the 6 wine posted to you along with maps, tasting notes, recipe suggestions and all the usual goodies that our online tastings have.

If there are two of you at home and you would like to order a second tasting box, contact Su on info@yorkshirewineschool.com (or just hit reply to your booking confirmation) and we can arrange for a second tasting box to be delivered to you for £40.

We are super excited to start these Fine Evenings at home and can’t wait to share many more fabulous wine with you. Looking forward to seeing you in December, perhaps in person, perhaps on screen, perhaps both! But either way, we’ll keep your Christmas merry…
